Created in the 18th century, the Pernod 1L was originally designed to be a medicinal drink. Only later did the Pernod family develop the beverage into an alcoholic drink for enjoyment. If the original recipe included absinthe, it disappeared with the ban on the infamous green fairy. Nowadays, Pernod 1L has become the oldest liquorice liqueur and an essential element of the French lifestyle. Its refreshing herbal aromas are perfect for an aperitif.
The Pernod is the oldest French aniseed brand. An extremely refreshing star anise aperitif. Contrary to popular belief, Pernod 1L is not a pastis because it contains very little liquorice. Its taste comes from the distillation of plants and not from maceration, which is the method used to make pastis.
