Bertani Amarone Della Valpolicella Valpantena 2016 (Corvina and Rondinella)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: Intense red color with purple hues.
  • Nose: Aromas marked and intense ripe cherries, fruits of the forest, spicy notes and typical Valpantena walnuts.
  • Mouth: Good follow-up of red berries on the palate, with soft tannins to give depth. Blackberry flavor with hints of mint, cherry sweet and spicy notes.

APPELLATION: Veneto, Italy.

VINEYARD: Grezzana.

GRAPES: 80% and 20% Rondinella Corvina.

AGEING: A portion aged in oak eslao and a small part in barrels for 30 months.

The Winery

Bertani

The Bertani wine company was founded in 1857 by two brothers, Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, in Quinto di Valpantena to the north of Verona. Gaetano was already a wine-making expert, having learned the new techniques in France under Professor Guyot, who is still considered today to have been one of the greatest wine-making experts of all time. The start of the Bertani brothers' work coincided with a new spirit of innovation which inspired them to use the latest production techniques, in both grape-growing and wine-making; they applied these techniques to all the vineyards they owned at the time, in the Valpantena and in the Soave area, but always respecting the territory and local agricultural traditions.

Amarone della Valpolicella Valpantena Bertani born in the vineyards immersed in the extraordinary hilly landscape of Valpantena, in the province of Verona.È produced mainly with grapes Corvina Veronese and Rondinella grapes, harvested by hand from the middle of September. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature which by 4-5ºC, reaches 22ºC, in the final phase of the process. Then the wine is aged for 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels before being bottled and aged for another 6 months. The Valpantena Bertani has a deep red color with violet hues. The nose opens with evident sensations of very ripe cherry, black cherry and berries, enriched with pleasant spicy notes and dried fruit. In the mouth it proves full-bodied and fruity, with tannins morbidi.Perfetto to accompany elaborate dishes, cheese and very tasty meat.

This wine comes from the hills of the Valpantena, the only cru subzone in the Valpolicella area. Bertanis traditional devotion to producing Amarone is also found in this wine, a modern and balanced Amarone, but still authentic and rich in body. New fermentation technology and drying methods give balance and elegance to the wines exuberant fruity notes, blackberry flavour, hints of mint, sweet cherry and spicy notes that are typical of this valley.

Deep dark ruby with a violet rim. Notes of black and sour cherries, berries, spices and dried fruit. The palate is creamy with soft tannins and integrated oak. A lighter, fruitier and younger version of Bertani's icon Amarone Classico.

Red with violet nuances. It had a wonderful aroma of cherry and red fruit. The best aftertaste of Amarone della Valpolicella.
