The Winery

St. Michael Eppan

Founded in June 1907, a time of economic depression, the cooperative dedicated itself from its very beginnings to promoting the cultivation of top-quality wines and ensuring adequate revenue for its members. It is due to the farsightedness of the authors of the early oenological guidelines that the production facilities have, in essence, preserved their original functionality. Side by side with the traditional wooden casks dating back to the days of the founding fathers, state-of-the-art wine-making techniques ensure outstanding quality and testify to that harmonious and functional symbiosis of tradition and modern technology which is the hallmark of San Michele-Appiano.

The Pinot Grigio San Michele Appiano is a still white wine of medium body, elegant and refined. Obtained from grapes carefully hand-selected and cultivated in 400 hectares of the famous cooperative owned land on the outskirts of Bolzano, this wine is subjected to an aging, partly in steel and partly in wooden barrels. It is part of the line selection of wines produced by the winery San Michele Appiano and is one of the excellence of the territory, of which tells flavors and fragrances. The climate to which they are exposed vineyards gives the Pinot Grigio a good structure and a good balance, along with a pleasant acidity and delicate finish. An elegant wine, ideal to accompany fish dishes or to be served as an aperitif. The winery San Michele Appiano is one of the oldest wineries of Alto Adige. Founded in 1907 thanks to the passion of a few winemakers, today is a reference for the whole world of wine. A task pace with technological innovations, but always respecting the traditions, with the sole aim of producing high quality wines, just as the Pinot Grigio, which uniquely reflects its terroir.

The Pinot Grigio is a grape variety that is a genetic mutation of Pinot Nero, San Michel Eppan winery produces this wine thanks to a selection of the best vineyards of Pinot Grigio grown in the Adige Valley in Trentino. Pinot Grigio grapes are manually harvested around the early days of September and taken immediately to the winery for pressing. The musts are made clear and inoculated with selected yeasts so alcoholic fermentation takes place in the steel at a temperature of 15 º C for about 15 days. Pinot Grigio San Michel Eppan 2015 remains in contact with lees for about four months before blending and bottling.
