Description of El Sequé 2018

El Sequé 2018 (Monastrell)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: covered cherry red.
  • Nose: black fruits and undergrowth that are transformed in retronasal towards redder fruits and very fresh spices. It is even possible to find licorice and balsamic.
  • Mouth: fresh fruit, toffee and coffee. Serious and complex, favoring a long and sustained aftertaste with density and intensity at the end of the mouth.

DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN: Alicante

VINEYARD: Vineyards located in Alicante, at an altitude of 600 meters on sandy quaternary soils with a clayey subsoil. They work without pesticides or herbicides with an average age of 25 years.

GRAPES: Monastrell

AGING: 12 months approximately in 500-liter French oak barrels.

PREPARATION: Vinification in open wooden tanks with cold maceration for 24-48 hours and fermentation for 10-12 days with two daily treads and a small pump-over. Malolactic in barrel.

I tried it in a bar.
Brownish red edges. It has a strong smell of caramel. Curious this Bodegas y Viñedos El Sequé the wine had a slightly bitter end.

Pinoso Foothills interest born of Bodegas Artadi Bodegas Agapito Rico and together to develop a project based on the development and aging of wines based on the traditional variety in the area: the Monastrell. The ultimate goal is to achieve high-quality wines in this land of great potential and winemaking tradition. It counts with Jean François Gadeau as coach, Agapito Rico responsible for viticulture, and Vincent Milla as winemaker. The winery is located in the Sequé, at an altitude of 650 m., With almost century old Monastrell vines (80%) and vineyards of cabernet sauvignon, syrah and tempranillo. Soils, brown limestone and poor in clay and humus, the best conditions for high quality wines, wines with Mediterranean footprint. The group consists Artadi winery Bodegas Artadi (Rioja) Bodegas Artazu (Navarra) and Bodegas El Sequé (Alicante). Wine is born from the union of projects Artadi and Agapito Rico. Made with Monastrell grapes from old vines. Aged 12 months in new French oak.
