Description of Vigneti del Vulture Piano del Cerro Aglianico del Vulture 2016

Vigneti del Vulture Piano del Cerro Aglianico del Vulture 2016 (Aglianico)

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: Intense ruby red with violet glints.
  • Nose: An alluringly sweet scent reminiscent of balsamic vinegar and honey with notes of ripe dark fruits and warming spices.
  • Mouth: Rich and full on the palate with ripe fruit flavours and an enjoyable acid balance. Extraordinary notes of black currants, blueberry, black cherry, earthy spices and touch of cocoa are present with silky and persistent tannins. The finish is smooth and fruity.

APPELLATION: Aglianico del Vulture

VINEYARD: Vigneti del Vulture. These Aglianico grapes were grown at 600 meters above sea level among the rolling hills of Basilicata, Italy. The north-eastern part of the region is characterized by nearby extinct volcanoes, which makes the soil rich in potassium, ideal for the Aglianico variety. Vigneti del Vulture is part of the Fantini Group Farnese, which was voted best wine producer in Italy in 2016, 2017, and 2019.

GRAPES: Aglianico.

AGEING: Matured in new barriques, where malolactic fermentation occurs, for 2 years. Will cellar well through 2027.

PREPARATION: The grapes are double-sorted to ensure pure quality, then de-stemmed. Vinification takes place in small wood vats, with maceration for 25-30 days and manual pump-overs every 6 hours.

PAIRING: Beef, lamb, pastas with meaty red sauces, goat cheese.

We drank it at a restaurant.
As nearly all of them this one shows also a cherry colour. Fantastic berry aromas. It has a smoky colour.

TASTING NOTES:

  • View: A luscious burgundy red.
  • Nose: A sweet nose with a sharp inhale of red berries and toasted oak tree. Lightly agitate your wine to uncover the lush fragrances of balsamic and honey.
  • Mouth: The wine is bold and structured with a velvety tannin that reverberates through your mouth. The flavour maintains an earthy, red berry palate, giving the wine a refined complexity. Acidic but not too bitter, forest floor and woodsy blackcurrant give off a broody, enlightened sensation while dark chocolate and oaky spice add complexity and silky balance.

APPELLATION: Aglianico del Vulture VINEYARD: Farnese Vini, a leading Italian vineyard that hails from the Southern Aglianico del Vulture region of Basilicata, Italy. GRAPES: 100% Aglianico.

PREPARATION: Bold wines require a bold growth process. The aglianico grapes are grown along the volcanic slopes of Mount Vulture. They are concentrated and contain a high acidity, which creates a full-bodied wine that evolves with age.

PAIRING: Best served with dense red meats like lamb, well-cooked steak, or venison. Try to bolden up the menu with a spicy lamb stew, mushroom patty burgers, and roasted rosemary beets. Hearty pastas will also serve a tasty compliment to this rich Aglianico.RECOMMENDED SERVING TEMPERATURE: 15-18°CALCOHOL: 13.5%

Sensual aromas of chocolate. I couldn't find any particular flavour.
Perhaps rather soft for my taste.

- Deep red in colour. Hints of blackberry and blackcurrants mix with spicy, balsamic notes on the nose. Great structure on the palate and a long, persistent finish.

This red wine is cherry with brown edges. Concentrated aroma of red fruit jam.A little too acid although it depends on the taste of each person.
To enjoy between meals.
It's always good to share wine, but this one's special.
