Uvinum was founded in December 2009 as a social network designed by and for wine lovers. The aim was clear: to digitalize the pleasures of wine. For us, wine is more than just a drink, and we wanted to make the experience of opening a new bottle, serving the wine, enjoying the aromas and flavours accessible to every wine drinker.
Since 2010 Uvinum has become an international project. We always had this idea clearly in mind, because wine is omnipresent and enjoys worldwide popularity. The first countries such as France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom were followed by Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Denmark.
Soon afterwards, in 2011, our users demanded to expand the variety of our shop, which we of course did. We introduced new categories of alcoholic beverages, gourmet products and wine accessories. We managed to establish a better connection with our customers and expand the number of products according to their needs.
In 2012, we realized that the affiliate business model was leading to a poor shopping experience for our users. As a result, Uvinum developed into a marketplace to provide better service to customers. We have created a secure online platform where our consumers are always informed about their order, receive all information about the product they are buying and our partners guarantee on-time and accurate delivery.
2016 is a key year for us, as the prestigious event The International Wine Challenge (IWC) named Uvinum the best online wine business. The international jury praised the “fantastic product selection, the platform’s user-friendliness, the focus on young consumers and intelligent promotions”.
In 2017, Uvinum established itself as the largest European marketplace for wine, beer, spirits and gourmet products. More than 150,000 customers in 14 countries had access to 100,000 products, and in addition to a unique shopping experience, they received personalised advice.
In 2018, Pernod Ricard, the second-largest international producer and distributor of alcoholic beverages, acquired the Uvinum project with the aim of establishing online beverage retailing in all sales markets worldwide. This acquisition provides Uvinum with many additional resources, giving the company even more power to achieve new and greater goals.
2019 was an important year for the online business strategy of Pernod Ricard. In the middle of the year, it acquired Bodeboca, the number one online wine shop in Spain. Now that the group is bigger and stronger, Uvinum and Bodeboca are working together as partners to pursue a common goal: to become the best online shop for wine, champagne and spirits in the world.
In 2020, Uvinum became Drinks&Co. This new brand has a new website, implemented by new technology and a great team. The online shop, completely renewed and adapted to the needs of our customers, represents Pernod Ricard’s vision of the future for the online sale of alcoholic beverages.
